Introduction to Artist Euna Kwon

Euna Kwon is an artist based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, who expresses her unique vision of the world through urban sketches. Her distinctive style, deep yet not heavy, is a gift shaped by 20 years of living abroad, reflecting the grace born from inner struggles.

Growing up watching her father work on wood carving, she naturally developed an artistic sensibility. She pursued visual design at university and worked as a web designer for a newspaper but felt an unfulfilled longing for meaning. This led her to relocate to Cambodia in 2005, where she began her artistic journey. In 2011, her piece “Tearing Apart” earned her recognition as an emerging artist at Korea’s Gallery Ire, officially marking the start of her career.

Euna’s work draws inspiration from the profound beauty of nature, historical architecture, and everyday objects, exploring themes of eternity and introspection.

In 2024, she held an exhibition titled “Reconciliation” at Phnom Penh’s Stable Studio Cafe, collaborating with her father and daughter across three generations to bridge the divide between them.

Her artistic philosophy is embodied in the name “eka”, derived from Sanskrit, meaning “one” or “unique.” It signifies her aspiration to reinterpret Cambodia’s cyclical worldview through a linear perspective that embraces beginnings and endings.

Currently, Euna Kwon operates Studio eka (euna kwon art), where she combines her artistic practice with art education, creating opportunities for children to connect past and future through creative expression.

Her work reflects a commitment to giving back the invaluable life lessons gained in Cambodia. With each piece, she seeks to convey messages of forgiveness and reconciliation, inviting audiences to embrace a deeper sense of empathy and connection. For Euna, the greatest fulfillment comes from touching hearts and building bridges through her art.
